Gabriola Players most ambitious panto yet!  BIG cast, lots of music and terrible jokes!

The quintessential “bad guy” whose stingy old life is turned upside down by all sorts

of “good guys” and zany characters – including the obligatory (but slightly off kilter)

3 ghosts. Costumes that will blow your minds.

Nesting

Saturday, May 15th, 2010

A few years ago we found a bird had made a nest in our hanging flower basket on our front deck. This year we found a bird’s nest with 4 little eggs under the lid on our propane tank. Within a couple weeks they were hatched, grown and out of the nest.

The $350 Show — March 18th, Thursday 7-9 PM
The $500 Show — March 25th, Thursday 7-9 PM

“So, how does this work exactly? Well, this is a series of mixed media, group shows featuring the same group of island artists. Each week they will feature different works with the unifying theme being the price! You will know when you walk in the door what the price of each piece is … that’s why it’s important to get IN the door at 7 PM SHARP!!! Last year’s series was a huge hit and those “in the know” snapped up some great art at some AWESOME prices! On your marks, get set ….and GO!”

Wine and Music…Fun on Gabriola

Saturday, September 26th, 2009

It will be a fun night tonight here on Gabriola. Starting at 3:30 pm with the 6th annual Gabriola Wine Tasting at the Surf Lodge. There will be 100 wines to choose from this afternoon. Don’t miss this fun event, get your tickets at the Village Liquor Store or Artworks. After the Wine Festival you will have your choice of venues to appear at next. At the community hall there is a fantastic funk show starting at 8 pm. Enjoy listening to the stylings of Five Alarm Funk. Vancouver-based, they are a 12-piece rhythm machine that delivers a delirium-inducing live show fueled by original funk and afro-beat grooves. The band’s horn and percussion-driven instrumental jams feature searing guitar leads and horn solos wailing and soaring above a four-man percussion maelstrom. If you are not interested in the Funk Show try Silva Bay. The last Saturday of each month is Martini Night with The Great Martini Foursome. Enjoy the cozy atmosphere, live music and specials on martinis. No matter what you decide to do tonight you can bet you will have a fabulous night!

Spring Chickens!

Wednesday, April 15th, 2009

My husband picked up our day old (some only hours old) chicks today from Fiddlehead Farm. We got 15 chicks and hope that enough of them turn out as hens to lay eggs for our three families. This is a heritage breed called Dorkings and they are soooo cute … they remind me of chipmunks with their stripes. Our daughter has visited them in the studio several times this afternoon and just had her final visit before bedtime.

Another Snowy Day

Thursday, February 26th, 2009

I was just about to write a blog about the last of the snow melting from my front yard and my hostas growing new shoots and then this happened! At least 6 inches fell last night and, where the snow piles up from sliding off the roof, it is higher than my front deck. I had joked to my parents when they left in late December for their vacation in the desert that we would still have snow when they returned in the end of March … now I think I may have been right.

As it is hard for me to get my car out of the driveway I have decided to take advantage of the snow day and relax, warm at home with my family!
