Thursday, Dec. 3 – 101 Solutions for Global Warming. Author Guy Dauncey launching his latest book, The Climate Challenge at The Roxy Theatre on December 3rd at 7pm. Admission by donation, sponsored by New Society Publishers.

Saturday, Dec. 5 – The Canadian Tenors in concert with the Vancouver Island Symphony on Saturday December 5 at 7:30pm and Sunday, December 6, at 2pm at The Port Theatre. A fundraising event in support of the Vancouver Island Symphony’s Youth & Education Program. Tickets: $50 and available through Port Theatre Ticket Centre: 250-754-8550

Sat., Dec. 5 – Friends of the Library Book Sale: Book donations: Good quality books in good condition can be left at the library or delivered to 1800 Whalebone Drive carport anytime. For more information contact Wendy Strachan at 250-247-8392.

Sat., Dec. 5 – Victor Anthony and Friends third annual Concert For The Commons at The Roxy. Tickets will be available at Artworks. Doors open at 7pm, downbeat at 7:30pm.

Wed., Dec. 9 – Taking the Lines of Sea Star 2: A 1934 Matsumoto Troller at 7pm, Silva Bay Shipyard School. Gabriola boatbuilder Tony Grove talks about “Taking the Lines of Sea Star 2: A 1934 Matsumoto Troller”.

Fri., Dec. 11 – October Ferries to Gabriola: A Reading at the Roxy. In 1946 Malcolm and Margerie Lowry caught the Atrevida for Gabriola. Now a modern couple follow in their wake, echoing their search for paradise. Join them at a reading of Charlotte Cameron’s new play. Tickets at Artworks. 7:30pm. Doors open at 7pm.

Fri., Dec. 11 – Jupiter Ranch Art Studio invites you and your well-behaved pets to a festive night of art, baubles and fun. Friday, December 11th, 5pm – 9pm. The art of emerging Pet Portrait Artist, Lesley Harris, will be featured and you’ll be sure to recognize a furry Gabriola face in her work. The various artworks of Jupiter Ranch’s resident artist, Sylvie Milman will also be available for viewing and sale. 2220 Shaw Road, Gabriola, 250-247-2051

Sat., Dec. 12 – Restoring Carlotta, 1899 Bristol Channel Pilot Cutter at 4pm, Silva Bay Shipyard School. Stephen Mohan talks about restoring Carlotta, built in 1899 as a Bristol Channel pilot cutter, and worked for the Cumberland Sea Fisheries before being converted into a yacht in 1907.

Sat., Dec. 12 – The Grade 7’s invite you to attend their movie fundraiser, No Impact Man, on Saturday, Dec. 12th, matinee and Tuesday, Dec. 15, at 7pm. Can you save the planet without driving your family crazy?

Sunday, December 13 & Thursday, December 17 – Radio After Dark presents Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer at the Surf Lodge. Evening performances at 7:30 with Sunday matinee at 2:00. Tickets at Artworks in Folklife Village.

Sun., Dec. 20 – Solstice Celebration at the Commons — details TBA.

Sun., Dec. 27 (24 hours)- Christmas Bird Count 2009. If you can help, no experience is required as you will go with someone who knows the birds. A $5 donation from each person goes to Bird Studies Canada to help cross-Canada analysis. Please call Margaret at 250-247-2025 as soon as possible.

November 12 – 15 – the 6th annual poetry festival at the Surf Lodge, The Roxy and other locations. For tickets please click here, or visit Artworks.

November 14
– The Port Theatre is host to “The Kerplunks” at 2:30 pm. Call 250-754-8550 or visit the Port Theatre box office for tickets.

November 14 – Country Dance! Old style country music with Nathan Tinkham and friends. Community Hall, doors at 7:30 pm with music starting at 8 pm. Tickets are $12 at the door. Call 250-247-8197 for more information.

November 15 – Malapina Choir presents La Diva and Le Choir with guest Natalie Choquette. Show starts at 2 pm at The Port Theatre. Call 250-754-8550 or visit the box office for tickets.

November 18 – What to Archive? Workshop about what to archive and how to keep it safe. Put on by both the Gabriola Museum Society and People for a Healthy Community. 7 – 8 pm at Gabriola Commons in the PHC Offices on the lower floor. RSVP by email to Kathryn or call 250-247-7311.

November 19 – 21 – The Vancouver Island Symphony presents “A Mozart Festival” featuring 2 concerts and the movie “Amadeus – The Director’s Cut”. Festival pass $75.00, single tickets also available. Contact The Port Theatre at 250-754-8550 or visit the box office for more information.

November 21 – Mel Watson at The Roxy. Indie artisit Mel Watson offers her unique musical style with the aid of modern technology and outstanding musical ability. Winner of 19 Australian Music Awards making this a show to not miss! Tickets $15 in advance at Artworks, $18 at the door. Doors open at 7 pm show starts at 7:30 pm.

November 25 – Clothes swap party at the Surf Lodge. Contact Sarah Welsby for more inofrmation or to donate clothes. Cost to attend is $15 per individual and $20 per family with proceeds going to build an orphanage in Cambodia. Starts at 4 pm!
