Real Estate Activity for Past Quarter

There have been 43 sales and 8 conditional sales since April 1st, 2007 as compared to 54 total sales for this time last year. The median price for the second quarter of 2007 is $295,000 as compared to the second quarter of 2006 at $237,500. Total number of properties currently on the market is 118. Of these 54 are bare land and the rest are residential. In addition there are 7 commercial properties for sale.

Market values are continuing to rise slightly and activity remains stable at this time.

A health care facility opened on Gabriola on July 3rd offering extended hours and an emergency treatment room for on call physicians, see their web site at www.ghcs.ca for more information.

Due to rising real estate costs and a lack of rental homes the Gabriola community is looking at the issue of affordable housing. Lopez Island in the San Juan Islands has been working on this since the early 80's. To see what they have done go to www.lopezclt.org

A general store has recently opened at Silva Bay with a coffee bar and computer service.

The Saturday Farmer's Market is in its 13th season, 10-12 am at the Agricultural Hall, offering farm produce and local crafts. Also on Saturday just down the road, Good Earth offers a morning market with fabulous freshly picked produce. Fresh baked breads are also often available.
