There are many road side stands on Gabriola which offer such things as fresh produce, fresh eggs, homebaked and preserved goodies, and crafts. It is part of the Gulf Island lifestyle. People move to Gabriola for a lifestyle change which often includes a home occupation. This sweet little stand displays beautiful handmade pottery.
Yesterday was Canada’s Birthday. There were festivities at the Folklife Village Shopping Center with music by Cowabunga, and a potato Cannon contest at the Brickyard beach including birthday cake! Very appropriate for the season, ‘Here Comes the Sun’, was the name of the year end performances put on by the Gabriola Dance School. We were treated to an interesting hour of stories and drumming by the Snuneymuxw First Nation who came to Gabriola to share some of their culture and customs.
