3rd Village Vision Workshop
The first two workshops in the Village Vision process generated ideas to consider for developing a vision for a sustainable village core, current and potential land use, and zoning. An interest in alternative housing models and increased density in the village core is an emerging theme in the community conversation.
The third workshop will focus on housing on Gabriola and the role it can play in a sustainable village core. We will have presentations on supply, affordability and current housing needs island-wide, and help with understanding how densities can be and are used as tools for planning. Local Trustee Melanie Mamoser will help us understand how the bylaws and policies of the current Official Community Plan can help us address housing. Keynote speaker, Matt Thomson, will outline housing approaches for small rural communities. Matt is a research and planning consultant with experience in affordable housing needs assessments, strategic planning and policy development in small communities throughout B.C.
Please join us on Saturday, May 23rd from 2:00 to 5:00 pm at the Phoenix Auditorium, The Haven.
